Beauty Big Bang “Nail Foils”

Application Tips and Tricks

My mother was celebrating her birthday today, so we took her out for lunch. She calls it her annual margarita-day. My mother has a long history of drinking a large margarita on her birthday. She still gets carded at age 73. It’s the law, I can’t tell her! How many times have nail foils frustrated you? There are two kinds of people in the world: those who have never used nail foils and those who have tried them. They turned out great this time, and I’m excited to share my tips.

Let me first say that I am not an expert in nail foil application. I’ve tried them all, and I was satisfied with fashion frenzy the results. This design isn’t very forgiving, so it was important to me that I was happy with the result.

These are the directions for applying nail foils:

  • Apply a similar color nail polish to pumpkin silhouettes your nails, and allow it to dry completely.
  • You can cut a little bit more than you need to reach your nails.
  • Use nail foils glue to attach the nails and allow it to dry.
  • Apply foil to nails and press down with an orange stick, cotton ball or a rubber mallet.
  • Apply a water-based topcoat to seal the surface.

These were done with two coats of a silver vulture culture holo (ILNP mega X). These were difficult to get right the first time around so I used 2 coats nail foil glue. It seems that even with just one coat, you can still miss some areas. The nail foils was more stable with two coats. There were very few areas that didn’t transfer fully and only the edges. There are many tools that can be used to transfer the foil, but the best combination is your bare fingers and a rubber/silicone tip pusher. My bare fingers press down on the nail, and then the cuticle pusher helps me get to the edges. I did apply a water-based top coat to finish it off. It made the nail look a little wonky but not as much as regular QDTC. Some top coats that are water-based work better than others, so I’m open to trying another one.
